Embracing Cloud technology has become a necessity for countless businesses. There are some however, as previously mentioned, that remain somewhat reluctant, despite the benefits. One industry in particular is the construction industry. As active supporters of the construction industry and with key clients in this field, we wanted to use this industry as an example to show what can be done.
In the third and final instalment of our mini-series focusing on Cloud technology in construction firms, we discuss how to introduce the cloud in the smoothest way possible, allowing their firm to fully realise their potential via the Cloud. The following are suggestions, but if you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to get in touch – we’re happy to talk you through the process.
Assess Your Current Standing
Before undertaking any changes within your firm, it’s important to first take stock of what you have and how it can be improved upon by adopting a new process or system. The first area to look at – and potentially the most important in your construction firm – is your project management system.
A successful project management system should make day-to-day life a much smoother affair, all the while improving accuracy and speed across the project, with the end result being quality assured. Is this true of your system?
By assessing what you already have in place and objectively analysing where processes are being slowed or where improvements can be made, your firm will find itself in a much better position to decide what is needed from your Cloud adoption, and what issues it can address to satisfy your ROI.
Take Small Steps by Considering PaaS First
As mentioned earlier in our Cloud mini-series, PaaS or Platform as a Service is a means of accessing software and hardware using a Cloud platform for smoother project management. PaaS also comes with the advantage of removing the need for multiple installations and licences, resulting in lowered costs and a far more streamlined process for project managers.
These benefits and the ease with which PaaS can become a part of your construction firm makes it an ideal first step towards embracing a wider Cloud presence. For your teams, there’s an opportunity to introduce themselves to Cloud technology whilst identifying and ironing out any additional issues they find during this step.
To make any system implementation successful, you need the support of your employees and managers at every level – that’s regardless of industry or type of system. Bringing PaaS into your firm as an introduction for project managers will help to get key individuals involved, but how do you spread that enthusiasm further within your firm?
Convincing and encouraging other employees (and some project managers) will require you to express the positives and advantages that come with adopting the Cloud – some of which can be found in our previous blogs, such as greater productivity and lower cost. This is an important step which will ensure the smooth transition required to bring Cloud into your organisation successfully – be patient, clear and listen to concerns to build the right level of trust.
Ask a Professional
Of course, leaping into the deep end and changing your systems overnight can cause issues – especially if you’re not completely clear about what your business wants or needs. Instead, we always recommend talking to a professional to get a better understanding of how your organisation specifically will benefit from the Cloud and how to make the transition work for you.
