Global spending within the IT and software sector is set to reach over $4 trillion by the end of 2020; which arguably burdens businesses with high expectations. All businesses are set out to achieve a positive Return on Investment (ROI) for their customers and clients alike. Staying up to date in this industry is therefore of massive importance.

2019 saw various different trends such as an emergence of blockchain technology, augmented and virtual reality and artificial intelligence. 2020 seems set to be more of the same with some added nuances that will put further power into businesses hands when it comes to software development, usage and efficiency.

Cloud technology is the future

As you are probably now fully aware, cloud technology is already a growing part of businesses everywhere but with the growing demand for high speed; almost instant communications and collaborations; cloud technology will only surge in 2020 – especially with the growing introduction of 5G technology.

Cloud technology is beginning to become the backbone of so many successful businesses because of it’s ability to make them more agile, more scalable and ultimately; grow faster. Using the cloud to enable multiple teams in multiple locations service clients in a multitude of more effective ways is now increasingly more important and will only serve to become a stronger business asset moving in 2020. With this in mind, it’s extremely important that you not only empower your employees and internal departments with the power to work with cloud software but also to ensure that your customers are recieving the best return on investment and service that they will now expect.

Python programming will surge

Whether you are concentrating on the different areas of computing and software such as web development, enterprise software development, analytics or as aforementioned; cloud technology; one thing that all of these different areas have in common is the prowess and power given to them by the use of Python development. It really is everywhere. While it appears that the popularity is growing in the programming language; a popular programming language ranking site named TIOBE recently ranked Python as the third most popular programming language behind Java and C.

With this in mind, then; it is more intersting that the popularity of Python has in fact doubled in 2019 from 5% to 10% which is why it is anticipated that the programming language will further close in on Java and C in 2020 and beyond. Python has effectively lowered the barriers to entry into programming and has a brilliant community of developers that are adopting and helping each other grow.

A huge growth in the adoption of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

While it feels like it has been a long time since Artifical Intelligence and Machine Learning were brought into the frame; there are multiple different ways that businesses are now using and adopting AI and ML. Most businesses that are adopting the technology in their software offer a little extra to their customers; too. In a recent survey, 84% of respondents said that they think that the implementation of AI and ML can help to give them an edge of their competitors which will help with growth and efficiency.

A basic element of AI is in the use of chatbots on websites. These Chatbots are replacing human customer service executives which in turn is saving businesses a lot of money; time and productivity by using AI and ML to try and improve their customer service directness – finding the problem for the customers quicker and more effectively, increasing the likelihood of a positive experience.

A stronger 5G mobile network coming to you

As already mentioned previously in the article; 5G is expected to start accelerating connectivity with the network expected to be rolled out to around 50 cities by summer 2020. It is presumed that 5G will ultimately help to provide better data security and on top of this, there will be 3D gaming, enhanced workspaces and vast file sharing between different people and businesses enabled; which will start to bring people “closer” together in a similar way to that of the industrial revolution seemingly making the world “smaller” at the time.

Instant Web Applications

Instant web applications are something that we are quite familiar with and we expect the use of them to grow in 2020; especially with Google recently adopting a mobile-first ranking criteria. As an experienced Microsoft Certified Partner, we have the ability to answer questions of business efficiency and business growth regarding the implementation and build of instant web apps.

It was back in 2016 that instant web apps were introduced to the software developer’s world and they have allowed websites to run like apps; without the need to download them. These apps can be used for testing, in which web developers can launch them to test the mobile apps before they launch them to the wider world. They also seemingly provide a much better user experience in a world of growing mobile usage.

A focus on outsourcing software development and bespoke software design

There has been an increase in the number of projects that have been outsourced to different design agencies, software companies and freelancers recently and this is mainly down to the way in which it allows businesses to pick and choose the best entities for the job each time they commission a particular project. During the period from this year; 2019 to 2023, it is estimated that the IT and Software outsourcing marketing with flourish even further.

Businesses are constantly looking at ways to improve their processes and reduce costs and one of the best ways to do this is to outsource software development projects – it’s like employing an extension of your business with an entire team of experts and talented individuals with the knowledge and know-how to get your project off the ground and providing the return on investment that your business needs.

Recently we wrote an article detailing 7 key benefits of bespoke software development to help businesses understand why having your own specific task-related software is much better, more efficient and delivers more productivity that a one-size-fits-all, out of the box software solution.

Take a look at our article here.

Finally; we want to wish you a Happy New Year and a prosperous and successful 2020. It is expected to be a huge year in terms of development; with there being a reduction in the amount of political uncertainty; we are now hoping that this will lead to a more solid foundation for businesses to grow and we hope to be there every step of the way. We want to make sure that we are helping existing and new customers flourish with the realisation of better business efficiency, more productivity and a positive return on investment with bespoke software development.
