The Client
Kaleida was contracted to design and develop BargainRooms.com, an online reservation system allowing all types of users simple access to thousands of hotel offers. The Bargain Rooms concept is simple; hotels with unsold rooms have the opportunity to sell them at short notice via the Internet. Bargain Rooms is the trading name of ReidyMonaghan Limited, a privately owned company with many years experience owning and operating hotels.

The Solution
The BargainRooms.com online accommodation booking system allows users to search for Hotels, check their availability and place bookings. It was written as an ASP.NET web application using C#. The backend database is Microsoft SQL 2000. The system is skin-able for partners, with Hotels selectively assignable to different partners. The system briefly comprises three main areas:

• Web-based N-Tier application that provides front-end services to the customer
• Web-based N-Tier application that provides back-end configuration services to privileged users.
• Web-based N-Tier application that provides back-end administration services to BargainRooms.com.
• Smart Client N-Tier application that provides batch processing functionality.

Customer Facing Website
Customers accessing the Bargainrooms.com website have the following available features:

• Search for accommodation based on filtering criteria: location; check in dates; rating
• View Hotel details, including room details, facilities, directions and local attractions
• Check for availability and prices
• Booking management
• Fulfilment email notification.

Privilege User Website
Usernames and passwords allow privileged users, such as hoteliers, to log in and manage information on the system. Hoteliers can:

• Modify hotel details, including uploading photographs associated with the site
• Update availability
• Run booking reports

Administration Website
Administrators can:

• Create reports on all bookings
• Manage users
• Manage and register hotels, including associating with partners and controlling notification and booking mechanisms.

Smart Client Utility Application
This application allows BargainRooms.com to carry out business related batch processing such as:

• Bulk import and registration of hotel details
• Mailshot hotels
• Mailshot customers.
